Mediawiki for Niche Websites

I’ve been thinking about using mediawiki (it’s a platform that wikipedia and other wikis run on) for niche websites. Basically, the idea is that people take wikis more seriously than any other kind of websites.

Here are some advantages I could think of:

People see wikis as authorities. This means you might get better CTR on serps.
It’s possible to get great content written for free (because anyone can edit wikis)
It’s great for SEO, because it’s easy to interlink pages, all outbound links are nofollow.
People will VOLUNTARILY link to your domain and inner pages. If you don’t believe me, go to any article on any wiki and check how many sites are linking to that article.
I’m not sure but i think adsense CTR could be very high, especially if you put the ad block next to the article menu.
Some disadvantages:

Takes some time to set up and configure.
It may take more time to write content, because you have to markup menus, add images etc. if you want to make your wiki look like a real one.
I’d like to know what you guys think about this idea.
