Basic SEO practices

Basic SEO practices for newbies:
The thing to remember is that SEO isn’t a magic bullet. It’s important, but noone knows the exact algorithms the SEs use, and each one is different so all you can do is optimize the best you can. There happens to be a few things that you should just always do whenever you make a new website. Don’t stress over every little thing, just make sure you are doing it, this should just become kind of automatic for you.
Make sure you fill in your meta tags with a good title, description, and the right keywords. I personally don’t think the keywords meta-tag is nearly as important as everyone else on here does, but it gives me a way to organize my keywords list for me to reference. When you start having many different websites, it’s good to include whatever notes to yourself you can. When you come back to work on an older site you might not remember eveything you were thinking before. The metatags help you remember your site info as much as it helps the se figure it out. A good rule of thumb is that anything that won’t hurt you for SEO and might help you should use, and use correctly. Don’t use the same metatags for every page on your site. Take the time to make them be specific to each page.
Then make sure that you have some decent content. Structure your content correctly, make a few title headers in the content that include keywords (use header tags h1, h2, etc.), try to have a keyword density around 2% in your content, and maybe 4% for the whole page including the metatags, alt tags, anchors, etc. Avoid duplicate content between different pages on your site. Remember, your content isn’t just something to get google to like your site, it is the whole point of your site. The content and how you structure it is what will make visitors do what you want when they get there. If it’s crap they’ll just leave, and 99% of them won’t leave by click on your adsense or affilliate link, they’ll just close the window or use the back button. (yes, of course if your doing blackhat stuff you can make the browser go where you want, but that’s for a different discussion.)
Be sure that your .htaccess is set up correctly. I usually set up a 301 for all www requests to redirect to non-www urls. If you don’t set that up then every single page on your site can appear to google as having at least one duplicate. If that’s the only thing wrong on your site it isn’t going to kill you, but it’s so easy to fix. If you don’t know how to set up a redirect in your .htaccess file then just do a search, there are many other threads explaining it. Check google if you can’t find it here. Also, .htaccess only apples if your on an Apache server, Windows servers do it a little differently, if that applies to you then just search google to find out how to do it. You should also specify which you prefer, www or not-www in google tools if you use it. (If you don’t then you really should, I recommend you set yourself up an account for webmaster tools and analytics.)
Make a robots.txt file and I like to include a favicon because without them the robots will trigger file not found errors on your server. Be sure to configure your robots.txt correctly. Make a custom 404 page. If your site has more than just a couple of pages then also create a sitemap.xml file. It’s not a bad idea to just create a sitemap anyway no matter what, it lets you define the structure of your site to the crawlers. Just search google if you don’t know how to do any of that, it’s very basic and you can find exact instructions within a minute when you do a search.
Other than that there isn’t a lot more you can do for on-site SEO. When people ask about SEO they’re always thinking of on-site SEO, but thats the easy and quick part. Just do it and get on with it.
Everything else is off-site SEO and involves building backlinks and promotion. This is where you need to focus your efforts. This is where the magic bullet is, if there really is one.
Create relevant articles containing your keywords, include backlinks using keyword anchors, and submit to article directories. Article directories are mostly authority sites and your article becomes a relevant backlink to your site. Then create profiles and accounts on blogs, social networking sites, forums etc. Include a link to your website whenever you do that and each one of those become backlinks as well. Whenever possible include keyword anchors and title or alt tags on those backlinks. Don’t always use the same anchors, vary it up a little, use 3 or 4 different keywords and even do a few with some non keyword anchors. You are trying to look as though a lot of different real people have taken a liking to your site, if it were natural then all links wouldn’t be exactly the same, so you want to simulate that same type of randomness. Linkwheels and other backlinking strategies are all about simulating the natural events that happen as a site grows in popularity. If you can do it successfully then the SE’s will give you good position in the listings, and then hopefully what you are simulating can become reality. The point of all of it is to get traffic.
Thats the end of it.
Go back and watch your stats to see what keywords are getting the most traffic to your site, analyze the data a little bit and if you need to, remove or add keywords to your content and tags, and adjust the anchors your using in your backlinks.
Continue building links. Remember you are trying to simulate to google that your site is gaining in popularity. When that happens naturally, people are always adding links to your site. Since you are trying to look natural you have to do the same thing. Linkbuilding never stops completely.

Trick to get unique content for your websites fast

When you are building a website and stuck what to write to fill a gap or to make the site look more professional at times it can be a job on its own wiriting the quality well written content.

I have found a quick way to find unique content for use on your website if you want to just copy and paste if it’s a quick site you want to make or even slightly re write to your preference.

1. Find a competitor site in your niche.

2. Go to www[dot]archive[dot]org and type the address you found in step 1.

3. Now the idea is to check how this page looked well back by clicking on a date. It’s likely that over time a website has changed its content or even re-designed its website fully which means that this content is no longer indexed and considered unique.

4. Once you find some content you want check that is unique by doing a Google search searching for a sentence or 2 in side speak marks (“”").

5. If Google don’t find a match then well done you now have some unique content you can use/play with.

I’m sure if you use your head to can also bend this kind of technique for other uses too.

Facebook Share Script

What does this script do?

I’ve called this script “EasyShare”. I developed this script myself. The script has been developed to run on blogger. You don’t need to pay for any hosting, or domain names. You can basically be up and running within 5 minutes without spending anything.

The script has also been developed to be stealth from Facebook. There is ZERO HTML IN THE BODY. Check the source if you don’t believe me. All the HTML is generated via JavaScript. The JavaScript has been obfuscated to futher avoid content detection from Facebook.

It’s a very small script with only 2 files:

1 Blogger Template
1 .JS file
How Do I Set It Up?

Open “jqi.js” and edit the variables. There’s only a few and I’ve included comments. Once done, save it.

Now, go to Google Sites. Google it. Set up a site. Once you’ve created a site, add a page to the site and set the page type to “File Cabinet”. Give the page a name “js”. Once you’ve added the page upload the “jqi.js” file. Hover over download, right click on copy link location. Paste the link into notepad. Look for “jqi.js?”. Select the question mark and all the text after the question mark and delete. Your link should now end in “jqi.js”.

Open the blogger template file and copy the link into the “src” attribute of the “script” tag. Overwrite my example url.

Edit the meta tags at the top of the blogger template. If you are unsure on how to edit them, visit Facebooks Open Graph page for an explination of the meta tags.

Create yourself a blogger blog. Give it any name you want. Chose a meaningful URL. Select any design, it don’t matter. Go to the “Design” tab and select “Edit HTML”.

Paste ALL of the HTML from the blogger template into the text box, and press save. You should be asked if you want to keep or delete the widgets. Select delete.

Now, view your blog, and test. If you’ve set it up right, it will work.

Index new WordPress Blog within 1 day

I usually get my site indexed in a few hours, with just about 10 minutes of work (Apart from setup)

1)
Set-Up WordPress:
–Platinum SEO Plugin
–Google Sitemap XML Plugin
–Dagon Sitemap Plugin
—Create Page called “Posts” or “All” for the Dagon Sitemap

2)
Content:
Either Autoblog 50+ Posts, or Create ~10 quality pages

3)
Setup Sitemaps / Robot.txt
Set your site up with Google Analytics-Submit your Sitemap that way, as well as your robot.txt, also change your crawl rate to a faster rate.

4)
Twitter:
Tweet your new sites homepage, and 6 or 7 of your posts, even @them to others in your niche. Now if you have a second, or third, or fourth twitter account etc.. Go and Re-Tweet those posts. Make sure you include hashes people would search often related to your niche, nothing spammy.

5)
Social Network:
-Submit your front page, and 1-2 of your new posts to social networking services
–I first submit to, reddit & digg-Its quick and easy.
—Stumble, Mixx etc. the more the merrier!

6)
Ping
Ping your site using a couple good ping services, my favorite is:

http://ping.in/index.php

Now repeat step 4 every few hours, specially if you have an auto-blog.

Complete guide on SEO

* This guide isn’t for advanced SEO.
* Meant for rather new members who are lost.

Top 5 Ranking Factors

Keyword Focused Anchor Text from External Links73% very high importance
External Link Popularity (quantity/quality of external links)71% very high importance
Diversity of Link Sources (links from many unique root domains)67% very high importance
Keyword Use Anywhere in the Title Tag66% very high importance
Trustworthiness of the Domain Based on Link Distance from Trusted Domains (e.g. TrustRank, Domain mozTrust, etc.)66% very high importance
* Source SEOMOZ.org *

So let me get to point 1.
This is by far the most important factor.
Anchor Text.

Anchor Text are hyperlinks that link back to your Money site.
Every article you see these days, are definitely linked to another site.
Why do they do did?

Because, it acts as a backlink.
And, say this backlink is from a high authority site (High PR Valued Site) it is even better.

So, how do you get the backlinks?
Article Submissions.
Press Release.

Somehow, Paid Press Release gets you better results.

I have covered what is Anchor text.
However, let’s say your site is about car washing techniques.
and, your ANCHOR TEXT is CAR.

It will not do you much good.
Just set your Anchor text as exactly as what you want to rank for.
Which should be Car Washing Techniques

Another mistake that most of new SEO do is improper keyword research.

What i mean by improper?
You just go for a keyword without analysis.

Some pts to note when you are doing Keyword Research

- How many people are searching for the term.
- How strong is the competition.

What i mean by competition, see who is ranking no.1 for the exact term.
Look in depth why is he getting there.
In most cases, it is just QUANTITY of BACKLINKS with very little search term related ANCHOR TEXT.

If that’s the case, don’t worry you have a chance for survival.
What you will have to do will be get loads of articles with ANCHOR TEXT and bookmark and get every article you submit Indexed.

- Point to note, there are **************** and nofollow links.
**************** means you will get a share of their authority (PR)
NOfollow means it will still count as a backlink but with not much value (quantity)

See who are you up against.
If your competitor (Ranking No.1 for your search term) is quantity based or quality based.

*** Impt, if your competitor is dominating you in terms of QUANTITY & QUALITY, it will hurt but just give that term a miss ***

This will save you frustrations.
Failures are definitely are stepping stone but in Internet marketing i don’t see failure as stepping stone.
Alot of them just tend to quit.

I thk i have covered point 1 and 2.

Point 3 is another thg that you would and should want to consider.

Having your link in the same domain is NO VALUE.
It just counts as 1 Link in the eyes of the Google Spider.

So, once you get your link on one domain.
Just move away.
Don’t keep hunting for more places in the same domain for youe anchor text.

** Sometimes the domains are different.
But their on the SAME IP.

You will need to have IP DIVERSITY too.
(Heck this until you get the basics)

Point 4 is one of my fav and this is where i sometimes outrank my competitors.

** Yahoo loves a good META TITLE.
***GOOGLE still loves backlinks followed by domain name followed by title.

Meta title is whatever you see on the browser bar now.
Right now it should be,
A Complete Guide on SEO – Black Hat SEO

**** Alot of you guys like to have your website name first instead.
Please do yourself a favor and push your website name to the back.
Google picks whatever and weighs whatever it sees FIRST.

Google might rank this post no.1 if someone search for
A COMPLETE GUIDE ON SEO

However, it may not rank this post no.1 if another person search for
COMPLETE GUIDE ON SEO.

a simple A can make all the difference.

AND yes, have your KEYWORD in your title tag and HAVE it as the first few words of your meta title.
- It is a MUST.

Point 5 in my view isn’t really impt unless your competition and you are neck to neck.

Instead my point 5 would be DOMAIN NAME.
- Get yourself a keyword reach domain name.
for example, carwashingtechniques.com
Yeah, it is long but it will defintely give you an edge if someone is searching for the term.

Local Search SEO Tips 2012

have been doing local search in a very very competitive industry for the past 2 years. In this time I have developed a number of good techniques that many people are not utilizing. So Im going to give a ew tips out here every week………
1.) When Creating the listing use all 5 categories, I prefer 1 pre determined big G category and 4 custom categories. Research your keywords before and make sure the maps are coming up in the search results.

2.) Use all 10 photos when creating, 2 photos for each category named appropriately. IE if your catagory is chimney sweep and your located is Dallas. title the image “Chimney-Sweep-Dallas-Texas-1.png” and the 2nd “Chimney-Sweep-Dallas-Texas-2.png”

3.) Create 5 simple videos using related images, I prefer to use iMovie. iMovie exports directly to Youtube so the process is painless. When submitting the video make sure the whole address citation with the phone number, and a link to your site are in the description. Use these videos in the local there are 5 total spots available.

Thats it for today but tune in monday for a couple more advanced tips!!

______________________________________________

Changed my mind heres a couple more……

4.) To take #3 a step farther submit those videos using traffic geyser, tubemogul etc. to submit to multiple video directories….. each posted video will pull a citation to the big G local giving it a huge boost!

5.) Submit Images to panoramio at the address that you used in the local, in the description of the photo put the address citation exactly how it reads in the business profile.

6.) Submit a related article to one of the bigger articles sites using the most difficult keyword that you have, I prefer ezine myself. In the resource box make sure you put the address citation and phone number. Big G will actually pulls keywords directly from the article giving you business listing more visibility and will rank for mor ethan just the 5 categories provided!

New SEO Strategy for Seven Days

I use a lot of tools – if you don’t have access to them you can outsource to a point, but it’s just a big time saver for me. You can do manual stuff to a point but tools I use and like are:
1. Senuke
2. SEO Link Robot
3. Scrapebox
4. Bookmarking demon
5. Article Marketing Robot
6. The Best Spinner
7. Sick Submitter
8. Xrumer
9. HMA VPN
10. Elite Proxy Switcher
11. Get Article
12. Linklicious.me account (paid version)

O.K. so here is the strategy; it will work very well for a medium competition KeyWords.

Day 1.
I create 20 web 2.0 accounts, 95% I use are do follow (if you’re not sure get a plugin to highlight no follow’s for you) with different proxy’ form either HMA VPN or Elite Proxy Switcher – all on different emails and different usernames.

I’d hate to set up as many emails as I need at this point so I just use guerilla email, disposable email that doesn’t need any setting up.

Also I make sure I have the KeyWord I want to rank for in the web 2.0′s address. It can be in almost anywhere but best to keep your KeyWord in front. Either way it will work.

Save the usernames and passwords to .txt file and let it age a day or two.
At the same time I have my ScrapeBox scraping as many URL’s as I can possibly find on my niche (scrape for niche related kw if you don’t have them also), let ScrapeBox run over 24-48 hours before doing a test blast to scrape as many as possible.

Day 2.
Create 20 unique KeyWord targeted articles; they all target the same KeyWord. The articles must have around 2% KeyWord density and also I make sure I have around 700-800 words in them. This may take you a day longer and it’s O.K. just make sure your articles are readable and have good KeyWord density, go for quality here since we want them to last.

By now ScrapeBox is usually done harvesting so I scrape some fresh proxy’s, generate random user names and emails and put in a fake web address to run a blast.

After that I save the URL’s that were successfully posted to a text file I’ll use later.

Day 3.
Now I post my articles to the web 2.0 properties WITHOUT putting a link to my money/main page. I just post my articles + I make them all pretty using photos, themes and sometimes videos. I also never use more than one tag (that is the keyword I want to rank for) per post.

Now after I’m done and I’ve saved ALL my links to a new .txt file I fire up SEO link robot and ran indexer + pinger (Senuke has one too but I’m just used to SEO link robot since it was there first) on the links, fire up bookmarking demon and randomly bookmark all webs 2.0′s.

Next in line linklicious.me – also import all the web 2.0 addresses. I use advanced settings in linklicious since then I can put my anchor text in there.

Day 4.
Start up Senuke and create as many web 2.0′s as I can in one run. Also while SeNuke is busy doing that I scrape articles form Ezine and Goarticle using great software called Get article.

Load the articles in TBS and spin them till I get around 70-75% uniqueness.
Now I post this to my web 2.0 created by Senuke (or SEOLink robot whatever you have at your disposal) and I also add more images – different one then tier 1, and randomly connect these to tier 1 handmade web 2.0′s.

Again linklicious gets all my URL’s + advanced settings and anchor text (but not the main KW, just niche related ones)

Day 5.
Basically repeat day 4 so that you create a 3 tier that points to the tier 2 and also bookmark all the tier 2 & fresh created tier 3 properties now.

Day 6.
Make even more articles using Get article and TBS and blast tier 2 using AMR randomly. I’m not extra careful about quality here; just keep the uniqueness to 50%.

Use sick submitter to make a ton of profile links using anchor text that is very niche related but NOT my main KW to tier 1 & 2 (P.S. you can integrate your Sick submitter now with linklicious to save time doing that manually).

Day 7.
Now I use my auto approve niche related SB list on tier 3 and I outsource a very large, 10k usually, Xrumer blast on my tier 3.

Also I finally get back to tier 1 (that must be indexed by now) and put all the links to my money site using only 1 main KW to point back to me. If I have some time on my hands I post some .edu’s and some .gov links to my tier 1 also to make them more powerful (you can add all kinds of quality links here now, video, PR, high PR blog comments etc.).

New Trick: How to get your site indexed quickly

This is nothing new, but I keep seeing posts asking things like:
“I can’t get my site indexed.”, “Why isn’t my site indexed?”, “It’s been 3 days and my site still isn’t indexed.”, “How come google hasn’t indexed my site.”

Whenever I put up a new site it’s usually indexed within a few hours. That’s without even submitting the site to google. It will take longer to get it to rank high, but that is a different topic.

If you want your sites to be indexed fast all you need to do is have one established blog that google likes.

Set up a whitehat wp site. Pick a topic that is interesting enough that you can write a new article at least once ever week or two. An entertainment or news related blog is best because you can just look at current events and rewrite your own article easily, and people are always searching for that stuff. Fill it up with about 10 articles to start, they don’t need to be real long, 100-200 words is more than enough, but don’t just write crap.

Then do some basic seo, you don’t have to spend a lot of time on it. Just do the basic stuff. Make sure you have a good title, description, and keywords in the header. Be sure to add keywords when you write your articles. And use one of the social bookmarking services to get some backlinks. Just a low price package will work fine. Then just add a new article once a day for a few days, then at least once a week for a few more weeks, then couple times a month, then just whenever you think of something. This whole process should require very little time investment. You’re not wanting to take time away from your money making projects.

If you do it right you the blog should end up in the first few pages of google without really trying. I always end up on page one within a few days or a week, but it doesn’t really matter all that much. Add the page to google analytics, and then about a week later, add some adsense to the page, but just on the side bar. You want it to look like a legitimate info source, keep the monetization to a minimum. Your blog should start improving in rank within the first month or so naturally. It doesn’t have to become a high traffic site, even 20 or 30 natural hits a day is enough.
Once you have done that, you have a good backlink site.

Whenever you make a new website, promote it on your blog just like it is any other story. “Hey I just came across this new site and it is pretty interesting. Its about blah, blah, blah. Here is the link”

Once you post the article about the new site on your whitehat blog, it should get indexed the next time google crawls the blog. Usually within a few hours.
